Drupal Camp Victoria 2009 Wrap-up

Drupal Camp Victoria has come and gone for another year. The level of Drupal understanding appears to be increasing as the presenters chose topics a little more advanced than they did the previous year. A well-rounded group of presenters and attendees provided a nice relaxed atmosphere with a little bit of something for everyone. The burgers were delicious and the sun was shining in beautiful Victoria BC and a great time was had by all that attended.

Stikky Media

Stikky Media was launched in Drupal 6 on June 15, 2009. The site contains a lot of CCK and Views use to show Internet Marketing Portfolio, Services, Packages as well as the use of many Social Media Modules for the SEO and Internet Marketing Blog. The Twitter module is used to automatically post links to new posts in Twitter while DiggThis and Service Links modules are used for user submissions.

New Google Sitemap Generator

A new open-source Google Sitemap Generator has just been released.  This is useful for non-Drupal websites or if you prefer to generate your own sitemap and Submit it to Google rather than using the XML Sitemap Module for Drupal.

Google Analytics provides a ton of useful information for webmasters.  This information can be used to gauge the success of web strategies.  By having all types of statistics about users and web pages, a webmaster can change, add, or delete content based on the hard data provided.  In the past we have had to guess or use less informative and less organized server statistics.  With Google Analytics providing usable metrics, it is much easier to know what strategies are working and what needs to be improved.

Google Webmaster Tools provides a ton of useful data for Webmasters.  In providing an XML Sitemap and submitting it to a Google Webmaster Tools Account a Webmaster can tell Google to crawl the pages included in the sitemap.  This is useful in two ways.  First it sends Google to the site before it would find it's own way there effectively having content indexed in Googles Search Results sooner.  Secondly, it allows Google to review the site from the view of a Search engine, the providing useful information to the Webmaster about the site.
